WORTHING FESTIVAL
DANCING ROUND-UP

WHAT A WEEK… THE SCHOOL ACHIEVED THE MOST AMAZING RESULTS EVER!
CONGRATULATIONS to all who took part in the dancing festival, I was very proud of you all and was delighted to see how well everyone danced.

Aggregate Awards
Aggregate awards are given for the classical and stage sections for each age group and Glendale pupils won every single aggregate that they entered – 17! There are only 18 in grand total and the 18th we didn’t have anyone contending it in all the requisite classes! We have to confess that out of the 17 we won, 2 of them were shared with pupils from other schools.

The festival has 4 mini group sections and we won 3 and came 2nd and both 3rds in the other one!

THE CHAMPIONSHIPS…
To get into the prestigious Championships you have to get a high mark for Ballet & Modern solos.
There were 12 junior Championship dancers age 9-12 from the whole festival of whom 5 were Glendale pupils

across the whole festival of which 10 were Glendale!

I am looking back through records but I cannot ever remember any school winning all 4 places in the 2 championships; I don’t think it has ever been done but I am checking out that fact!

The Amanda Wiseman Cup for the School obtaining the highest mark in Modern

for the highest Classical Aggregate under 12

The Ivy Baker Award
for the highest Stage Aggregate under 12

The Layla Harrison Award
for the highest aggregate for all 7 solos under 12

The Jean Butterworth Rose Bowl No 2
for the highest Classical Aggregate 12+

The Laine Theatre Trophy
for the highest Stage Aggregate 12+

The Samantha Sampson Trophy
for highest aggregate for all 7 solos 12+

Glendale Hits The All England...

Glendale hit the All England Grand Finals at the Peacock Theatre Sadlers Wells in London's West End this July, with no less than twelve qualifying groups and a quartet, which included approximately 95 Glendale pupils! The school had the opportunity to compete against some of the country's leading schools and showcase the work to a wide variety of adjudicators and professionals.
The week at the theatre saw Glendale take home 2 Gold medals, 3 Silver medals, 3 Bronze medals and numerous "Special Commendations". Congratulations must go to Jessica Spiers and Rebecca Vince for the Gold-medal-winning Modern duet and it should be noted that Jessica won 2 bronze medals for solos along with Bethany Highsted who also finished in the medals with a Bronze for solo Greek. The 12 & under modern group, 'Tarzan', deserves a special congratulations as the Gold-winning group was honoured to be asked, not only to participate, but OPEN the All England Dance Grand Gala!! Another award winning group was Nocturne, which won a much-deserved Silver having been unbeaten to date.
At the Gala the performers were given the opportunity to work with West End directors, lighting designers and technical crew to produce a show stopping performance which was attended by various celebrities, including Kerry Ellis, Gillian Lynne and Dame Beryl Grey.
The girls pictured with Kerry Ellis (Leading Lady, "Elphaba" in Stephen Schwartz's hit musical "Wicked"), represent the best Junior Modern group in the country and deserve to be congratulated on their many success this year.

Glendale Prepare for the All England Dance Competition. With 16
Qualifying Groups and mini groups Heading up to the regional finals next
week, Glendale have been hard at work getting ready for the event! Best

Wicked Theatre Trip

Glendale are giving pupils and their friends and family the opportunity
to see the new west end musical "Wicked" on the 12th of october. Top
price tickets have been reduced if we take a party of
40 or more. If you are you would like to take advantage of this
fantastic offer please ring the studios and leave your name and the
number of tickets you require, alternativley pop in to the office your
self and let us know before the 24th of september
.
There are no travel arrangements as it will be far cheaper for everybody to go by train than
coach and the theatre is right out side Victoria Station, so no walking
or tubes! The show is suitable for all ages and promises to be an
evening to remember, so book now!
